2012 Outdoor Doubles Leagues
April 16th – June 13th

The Niskayuna Women’s Tennis Association (NWTA) provides the community with a friendly way to share a game we love! Membership is open to women who are residents of Niskayuna or the Niskayuna School District.  We play doubles tennis at Blatnick Park for seven weeks (with an additional week scheduled for make-up games).  The $20 fee covers league play, a doubles mixer, and clinics.

Kickoff Gathering: We will once again have a NWTA kickoff gathering at the Mohawk Golf Club on Wednesday, March 14th from 7:30-9pm. It will give you an opportunity to register for the season and meet up with new and returning members. Coffee, tea, and dessert will be served. RSVP to Tina Lee at leelem@nycap.rr.com.

Clinics: Members are invited to attend clinics taught by local tennis coaches, Jim Neal (mornings) and Terry Casillo (evenings). The morning clinics are from 10-11am on Mondays 4/23 & 4/30 and Thursdays 4/19, 4/26, 5/3, & 5/10. Evening clinics are from 6-7pm on Wednesdays 4/18, 4/25, 5/2, & 5/9. The beginners’ clinic is Monday, April 16th from 10-11am.

Doubles Mixer: Monday, May 7th from 11:30-2. (The rain date is Wednesday, May 9th). This event is a fun way to play lots of doubles with different partners and visit with friends. More details will follow.

Annual NWTA Social & Banquet: We complete our season on Wednesday, June 13th with a tennis social at Blatnick Park and banquet at the Mohawk Golf Club. We’ll play doubles from 9:30-11am followed by a luncheon at noon. Join us for tennis and/or the banquet! More details will follow.

Registration Instructions: Tennis sessions are scheduled Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, 9–10:30am and 10:30–noon. Afternoon sessions take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays 4-5:30. The evening session is Tuesday 6–7:30pm. Each week you will play doubles with rotating partners and opponents within your group. Please complete your information for each desired playing time and include your skill level per the guidelines below. Captains will be assigned to help coordinate each session’s team of players. Skill levels and available time slots will be aligned as best as possible.

Please send registration forms and $20 checks payable to “NWTA” to Alicia Brabazon-Curtin, 2287 Sweetbrier Rd, Niskayuna, NY 12309. Registrations are due by Friday, March 16th . Late registration fee is $30. If teams are full, late registrations may result in substitute play only.

Level of Play: Indicate your level on the registration form using these guidelines.

Beginner        You are learning the strokes, scoring, serves, and court etiquette.

C       You know the scoring and are working to improve basic strokes and a dependable serve.

C+      You can keep the ball in play and sustain rallies and are still working on more dependable court coverage, strokes, and serves.

B       Your forehand and backhand are more consistent. You can direct shots, cover the court well and rarely double fault; you don’t usually force errors on serve.

B+      You have dependable strokes and 1st and 2nd serves. You can use a variety of shots: lobs, overheads, approach shots and volleys.

A       You have good shot anticipation, can sustain long rallies, execute lobs,  volleys and overhead smashes with above average success. You can approach the net and can force an error or make a winning shot. You have a strong 1st serve and consistent 2nd serve.
