Town Attorney
Serve as Legal Counsel to the Town: Provide legal assistance and guidance to the Supervisor, Town Board, Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals, Ethics Board, legislative committees of the Town Board, and all other Town Departments, Town officials and Town employees.
Litigate and defend: variance actions and proceedings brought by or against the Town of Niskayuna.
Draft, review, and negotiate: Prepare and review all legal documents for the Town including but not limited to, Town Board resolutions, contracts, license agreements, easements, franchise agreements, leases, Town policies, Town protocols, and local law amendments. Negotiates collective bargaining agreements and memoranda of understandings with bargaining unions, and assists with drafting and updating the employee handbook.
Administrative and investigate: Coordinate with the Town Comptroller regarding interpretation and enforcement of Town policies, and conducts investigations of alleged violations of Town policies. Provide assistance with grievances and legal interpretation of collective bargaining agreements. Provide guidance in connection with responding to FOIL requests. Ensure Town complies with all contractual obligations and applicable federal, state, and local laws.
Tax Certiorari: Assist in the review tax challenges against the Town and works closely with the Assessor to coordinate the defense of these property tax challenges.
