NIGHTTIME PAVING OPERATIONS ON BALLTOWN ROAD
The New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) is working on a project to pave Balltown Road (State Route 146) from the Rexford Bridge to Union Street. We’d like to inform you about some changes we’ve implemented based on feedback from residents.
After hearing multiple concerns about nighttime noise, DOT has adjusted the schedule to help accommodate those who live along this busy road.
- Work will now begin at 8 p.m. each evening and continue until approximately 6 a.m. This will provide earlier hours for work to occur and ultimately help the project be completed more quickly.
- Traffic signal improvements at intersections require the use of very loud jackhammers. All work with jackhammers will be limited to 8 p.m. through midnight at the latest.
- The amount of jackhammer work has been substantially reduced by switching to a different type of traffic signal that is more easily installed.
This work cannot be done during the day due to the very high traffic volumes, but these project changes will reduce the amount of noise late at night. Work is expected to be completed by the end of September.
We have listened to public concerns and hope that these actions help make this important safety project better suited for the community it serves.
