Important Notice: The Sewing Club is on break for the month of August. They will resume in September.

Niskayuna Senior Center is “12 Months of Kindness-Paying it Forward & Giving Back”. Our  Sewing Club has been very busy making children's pants to be donated to the Works of Mercy who works with the Department of Schenectady County Social Services, Ellis Hospital and other organizations that work with children in need. They have also collected new child size t-shirts, socks and underwear to make complete outfits. The Sewing Club will continue their endeavors this summer.  Items such as rompers and shorts will be made and donated. This is an ongoing program working together to support local nonprofits by making, collecting, and donating. The Sewing Club meets on Mondays at 10am in the lower level, to teach, learn simple works. Tuesday and Thursdays are freestyle work days with yarn, fabric and embroidery and for completing projects for groups in need. 

The Movie Club is finishing up their series about Frank Capra as a director and his commentary about life and its relevance to today's society. They have watched:

  • It Happened One Night
  • Mr. Smith Goes to Washington
  • Mr. Deeds Goes To Town
  • Meet John Doe
  • You Can't Take It with You

They will take a break for the summer and resume in the fall.  They will view one part of the documentary “Five Came Back” each week for three weeks starting on the third Thursday, September 19.
