Nature Conservancy and Adirondack Mountain Club in need of volunteers

To Town Residents:

The Nature Conservancy and Adirondack Mountain Club are in need of volunteers for their “Hike for Hemlocks” on Wednesday, May 16 at 6 p.m. This event will allow participants to work with The Nature Conservancy in identifying and cataloging the presence of Hemlock Woolly Adelgid (HWA) in the Lisha Kill Natural Area. This invasive pest poses a threat to Hemlock trees across New York State and has established a presence in the Lisha Kill.

Volunteers should gather at the Lisha Kill Natural Area Rosendale Road Parking area prior to the event prepared with their own gear. The hike is expected to last up to two hours and volunteers should be prepared to walk up to three miles.

A day or two before the event, volunteers will need to download a specific mapping application on their iphone or Android smart  that will aid in marking the exact location of HWA in the Lisha Kill.
