Click here for the latest Coronavirus COVID-19 Community Update from Supervisor Syed  - 06/03/2020

On March 15, 2020, Supervisor Syed closed all Town buildings to the general public, including the Town Hall, Highway Garage, Water and Sewer Garage, Water Treatment Plant, Wastewater Treatment Plant, Niskayuna Town Court, Transfer Station (limited hours) and Senior Center. Town buildings and facilities will remain closed to the general public until further notice.

Governor Cuomo's Executive Order 202.4, effective March 17, 2020, directed local governments to allow “no less than fifty-percent (50%) of the total number of employees” performing non-essential services “to be able to work from home or take leave without charging accruals."  Governor Cuomo's Executive Order 202.39, issued June 7, 2020,  advised that "local governments in Phase Two regions may bring non-essential employees back to work beginning two weeks after such region meets the metrics to reopen Phase Two."  The Capital Region entered Phase Two on June 3, 2020, such that the Town may begin reintroducing non-essential employees to work on Wednesday, June 17th.

Town employees performing essential services are not subject to the 50% workforce restriction. As such, the Niskayuna Police Department continues to respond to emergency calls; the Wasterwater Treatment Plant and Water Treatment Plant remain operational; Water & Sewer Department, Code Enforcement and Highway Department continue to respond to calls and perform essential services.

All permits will be processed electronically and through the mail. “Curbside” permit pick-up may be scheduled with the Building Department on a permit-by-permit basis. Please email [email protected] for more details.
  • Inspections:  The Building Department is conducting inspections and will require at least 24 hour notice for all inspection requests. When scheduling inspections, the inspector may request a virtual inspection, engineer certifications or specific pictures in lieu of an in-person inspection, depending on the project. In-person inspections will require proper PPE worn by all parties at all times during the inspection or the inspector shall leave the jobsite and the inspection will be rescheduled.
