Composting Class
The Town on Niskayuna, as part of its Climate Smart initiative and through a NYSERDA grant, is hosting “Learn to Compost” classes on Tuesday, May 2 at 6:00 pm and Saturday, May 6 at 10:00 am at the Niskayuna Town Hall. These classes are taught in collaboration with Cornell Cooperative Extension and will be instructed by Khila Pecorro, recycling and compost educator.
The Compost class will discuss the principles of composting and why it is so important! Register, take the class, commit to the composting pledge, and go home with a free compost bin, kitchen pail, or compost stirrer while supplies last. These composting materials are courtesy of a NYSERDA grant to the Town of Niskayuna, because composting reduces energy spent on hauling food scraps to landfills and sequesters additional greenhouse gases when the compost is added to the soil.
For more information or to Register to attend either class - email tbergami@niskayuna.org.
*UPDATE 4/25/23 2:30PM: At this time the composting supplies that were allocated to each class have been fully reserved through class registration. As of the date of this update - residents are allowed to attend the composting class but would not be eligible to take home supplies. Due to the high demand - the Town will pursue a second grant with NYSERDA and attempt to run this program again in the near future. *
